A tragic incident involving a collision between a train and a car in Hoghton has resulted in the death of the driver and severe injuries to a child. The emergency response was swift, with fire and ambulance crews, as well as British Transport Police and South Ribble Police, swiftly on the scene at Station Road after the collision was reported.
The North West Ambulance Service mobilized multiple clinical teams, including a hazardous area response team and two air ambulances. Regrettably, the child sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for urgent care.
Local residents witnessed the air ambulance landing as part of the major emergency operation. Many expressed their sadness and condolences on social media, with thoughts going out to the affected individuals, including the train driver and emergency responders.
As a result of the incident, Northern Trains issued service cancellations between Preston and Blackburn, with bus replacements in place. The 7.51am Colne to Preston service was directly involved in the collision at the level crossing.
Tricia Williams, the managing director of Northern, expressed condolences for the deceased individual and the injured passenger, affirming cooperation with authorities for a thorough investigation into the incident.
