Three brothers from Sheffield have been sentenced for their involvement in the sexual abuse of young girls. The main perpetrator, Amar Ilyas, 41, who was given a 27-year prison term in absentia for his crimes, fled to Pakistan. In his absence, his brothers, Kamar Ilyas and Kamran Ilyas, faced justice and received sentences of 10 years and three years, respectively.
Amar, known by the nickname Killer, used intimidation tactics like firearms and threats of gang rape to exploit vulnerable girls over two decades ago. The judge overseeing the case urges authorities to take all necessary actions to bring him back to the UK for his sentencing.
The crimes came to light after an investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA) under Operation Stovewood, focusing on systemic child sexual abuse and grooming in Rotherham. The victims, who were targeted, sexualized, and subjected to degrading acts, shared their harrowing experiences in court, describing how the abuse has impacted their lives.
Overall, more than 50 individuals have been convicted as part of Operation Stovewood, the largest law enforcement operation of its kind in the UK, uncovering over 1,100 cases of child exploitation between 1997 and 2013. The significant impact of these investigations has highlighted the importance of addressing such heinous crimes and seeking justice for the victims involved.
