Three Lions supporters are split over the resignation of Keir Starmer and have expressed their disapproval of Nigel Farage becoming Prime Minister, according to the team manager of England fans. Garford Beck, 64, hailing from London, has overseen the fans’ team at various World Cup events and local friendly matches. Featured in an ITV documentary showcasing England’s dedicated fans, Beck witnessed the unfolding of Starmer’s resignation on TV in Boston ahead of the upcoming Ghana game.

Reflecting on the event, Beck described it as a significant moment in history, emphasizing the inevitability of Starmer’s departure due to losing the support of the country. The fans have vocalized their sentiments through chants, first targeting Starmer and then shifting the focus to Farage. This has sparked debates and discussions among different fan factions in the stands.

While acknowledging the divisive nature of politics among supporters, Beck noted the presence of Starmer loyalists within the England section. Despite his personal stance of not voting for the Labour Party, Beck acknowledged that some fans regret Starmer’s exit. Starmer, an avid Arsenal fan, still participates in five-a-side football matches in North London to stay active.

Beck, a long-time supporter attending matches for over five decades, has been recognized as a ‘Top Capper’ by the official England Supporters Travel club, granting him discounted tickets for potential World Cup games. Managing the England fans team for international matches, Beck reminisced about witnessing the leadership of every England manager since Sir Alf Ramsey, recalling cherished memories from over 50 years ago.

As Starmer conceded losing support within the Labour Party ranks, he announced his intention to step down once a new party leader is elected. Andy Burnham, the former mayor of Greater Manchester, emerged as a strong contender to succeed Starmer, following his recent electoral victory and broad appeal across political ideologies. Despite Labour’s challenges in polls and local elections, Burnham’s success in securing votes from various political spectrums positions him as a leading candidate for the party’s leadership role.
