Prince Harry and Meghan are expected to meet King Charles during their upcoming visit to the UK next month. Royal sources have revealed that similar arrangements have been made in the past for Prince Harry’s solo visits to Britain. Prince Harry is scheduled to travel to the UK in the first week of July to participate in an event marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham on July 10.
Reports suggest that the Sussexes have been offered accommodations at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle to accommodate their visit’s schedule. However, they have not yet confirmed their acceptance of the invitation.
It has been disclosed that Prince Harry and Meghan will be accompanied by their children, Archie and Lilibet, on this trip, marking the family’s first visit to the UK in four years. The children last saw King Charles in person during the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.
Previously, Prince Harry expressed his desire to bring his family from the US but cited security concerns amid his ongoing legal battle over his UK security arrangements. Despite losing a legal case over the removal of taxpayer-funded security, Prince Harry has requested a review of the decision from Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood.
The Duke of Sussex has emphasized concerns about the safety of his family while in the UK and the adequacy of their security detail. The Metropolitan Police has stated that Prince Harry may be eligible for taxpayer-funded police protection if he provides advance notice of his travel plans.
Assurances have been given to Prince Harry and Meghan that appropriate security measures will be in place for their visit. The upcoming trip follows Prince Harry’s reunion with King Charles last September after a 19-month gap, during which the King is undergoing cancer treatment. There are possibilities of the Sussexes meeting the King and their children during the visit if requested.
A royal source mentioned, “A meeting between Harry, Meghan, and the King would signify a significant improvement in relations. Despite past events, the King holds deep affection for his son and daughter-in-law and looks forward to seeing his grandchildren.”
The future of interactions between Prince Harry and Meghan with other members of the royal family, especially the Prince and Princess of Wales, remains uncertain due to strained relationships in recent times. The couple’s public statements and actions following their departure from royal duties have led to tensions within the family.
Prince Harry and Meghan are expected to attend the Invictus event in Birmingham on July 10, with additional engagements planned with UK charities during their stay. While their children are unlikely to be present at public events, the couple has gradually eased their privacy measures by sharing selective images of their children on Meghan’s Instagram.
In light of past conflicts and controversies, the Duke of Sussex has been vocal about his strained relationships with family members, including the King, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and the Princess of Wales. The ongoing rifts have resulted in Prince Harry remaining distanced from his brother, Prince William.
The Invictus Games, a sporting event for injured service personnel and veterans, will take place in Birmingham next year. The spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan has not commented on the upcoming visit yet.
