Tributes are pouring in for a beloved figure known as a “gentle giant” who tragically passed away at a primary school. Wayne Ellis, aged 48, collapsed on the school grounds of Waterwells Primary Academy in Quedgeley just after 4 pm on June 4. Reports indicate he had been overseeing a tag rugby match before the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity was summoned to attend to a medical emergency.
Despite efforts made, Wayne could not be revived and passed away at the scene. A crowdfunding initiative was launched in his honor, amassing over £8,000 within a short span of five days.
A close friend of Wayne and his partner Jen, Felicity Tucker, expressed heartfelt sentiments on a GoFundMe page she established, describing Wayne as a “silent hero” who possessed a remarkable spirit of generosity and kindness. Felicity highlighted Wayne’s significant contributions within the Waterwells community, emphasizing his role in coaching the tag rugby team for many years and leading the Friends of Waterwells PTA.
In addition to his involvement in school activities such as organizing events like discos and summer fairs, Wayne was known for his passion for music, DJing, and his enthusiastic dance moves. He was also recognized for his assistance during school trips, support with maintenance tasks, and readiness to offer help wherever needed, showcasing his boundless dedication and generosity.
The fundraiser aims to alleviate the financial burdens faced by Wayne’s family during this challenging period, with donations intended to cover funeral expenses and provide practical support to Jen and their daughters as they navigate the difficult days ahead. Although no amount of money can replace the loss of a husband, father, friend, and community advocate like Wayne, the initiative seeks to demonstrate solidarity and care for the Ellis family during this trying time.
Felicity shared personal anecdotes attesting to the deep bond between Wayne and Jen, detailing their 15-year relationship and her instrumental role in connecting the two. She described Wayne as a loving and caring individual, revered by many as a gentle giant who brought joy and warmth to those around him.
The GoFundMe campaign has already surpassed £9,100 of its £10,000 target. To contribute or learn more about the fundraiser, visit the dedicated page.
