Former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan has expressed his support for Ben Stokes to retain his position as captain of the national team. However, Vaughan has raised concerns regarding Stokes’ recent conduct.

Stokes, who has been facing speculation about his future at 35 years old, is currently embroiled in a dispute with the England and Wales Cricket Board following an incident at a nightclub involving his teammate Gus Atkinson and Saracens rugby player Totoa Auvaa.

Rumors suggested that Stokes might address the situation on social media, potentially stepping down from his leadership role or even taking a break from England duties permanently. Nevertheless, no definitive action has been taken yet, as the ECB is expected to announce the squad for the upcoming Test match soon.

As the Women’s T20 World Cup commences, Vaughan, an Ashes-winning captain, has weighed in on the situation, indicating that Stokes’ dismissal as Test captain may not be justified for breaching curfew rules. Vaughan emphasized Stokes’ contributions to the team and suggested that a brief suspension could be more appropriate.

While Vaughan believes in a possible comeback for Stokes, he also expressed reservations about Stokes’ behavior in recent times, including incidents during the Ashes tour. Stokes and Atkinson are currently under investigation for violating team protocols, while the episode has been referred to the independent Cricket Regulator for further review.

Auvaa’s involvement in a physical altercation with ECB security staff has prompted Saracens to launch their investigation to ascertain the full details of the incident. Vaughan highlighted concerns about Stokes’ demeanor and interactions, indicating a need for improvement in his conduct.
