A fatal accident near a charming Scottish town has claimed one life and left two individuals with severe injuries. Authorities are seeking witnesses to provide information regarding the incident that occurred on the A709 Dumfries to Lockerbie road, close to Lochfield, Lochmaben around 7.35pm on Saturday.
The collision involved a black Vauxhall Vectra and a white Citroen Dispatch, prompting immediate response from emergency services. Subsequently, three individuals were transported to the hospital for medical attention. Regrettably, the 50-year-old Vauxhall driver succumbed to his injuries shortly after the crash, while the 67-year-old male and 55-year-old female occupants of the Citroen are in critical condition at the hospital.
Following the tragedy, the road was shut down for approximately eight hours to facilitate investigative procedures and was reopened at approximately 3.30am on Sunday. Sergeant Wayne Carnochan of Police Scotland expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and emphasized the ongoing efforts to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses relevant dash-cam footage to come forward to aid in the investigation.
