Former MasterChef host Gregg Wallace has put his country retreat on the market for £1.295 million, featuring its own carp lake. The presenter, who recently disclosed plans to sell his Kent home to relocate to Yorkshire and Italy with his family, emphasized that the sale marks a fresh start rather than financial troubles post his BBC departure.
Wallace acquired the five-bedroom property in Biddenden near Ashford for £810,000 in 2008. Described as a “generously proportioned detached family home,” the estate spans approximately 5 acres of gardens, woodland, and pasture, including equestrian facilities like a stable yard and workshop.
According to estate agents Harpers and Hurlingham, the residence boasts an impressive entrance hall, spacious sitting and dining room with a fireplace, family room, study, and a stunning kitchen/breakfast room. Additionally, the property features a principal bedroom suite, guest bedroom with ensuite, three more bedrooms, and a family bathroom. The outdoor amenities include a terrace, fountain, ornamental fishpond, and an orchard with apple, pear, plum, and peach trees.
Wallace, 61, cited family proximity and personal preference for the relocation decision. He expressed a desire for a property in a town to be part of a community, feeling somewhat isolated at his current location.
The MasterChef controversy involving Wallace surfaced in November 2024, following allegations of misconduct during his time on the show. An independent inquiry was initiated by production company Banijay after reports of inappropriate behavior, with Wallace addressing the upheld claims and expressing regret for any distress caused. He denied the most severe allegations but acknowledged inappropriate conduct, including unwelcome physical contact and culturally insensitive remarks.
