A former Hampshire Police constable, Christi Hill, has been wrongly accused online of involvement in the arrest of Henry Nowak, leading her to seek refuge in a safe place. Hill, who served as a police constable for 12 years, criticized social media and AI-driven platforms, including Elon Musk’s Grok, for spreading false claims about her role in the arrest of Mr. Nowak in Southampton last December. The incident involved the murder of 18-year-old Nowak, who was stabbed multiple times by Vickrum Digwa, later convicted of the crime. Responding officers allegedly disregarded Nowak’s condition, handcuffing him and dragging him across the floor as he struggled to breathe.
Hill clarified in a statement that she had left Hampshire Constabulary in April 2024, 20 months before Nowak’s tragic murder in December 2025. She expressed deep sadness over the events and emphasized the need to protect her reputation and peace of mind. The misidentification stemmed from a national police bravery award media release, where her photo alongside a former colleague was mistakenly associated with the Nowak case.
According to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, another male officer was also wrongly targeted and forced to relocate due to online misidentification. The officers were falsely identified through social media and Grok, claiming they were the ones seen in the police bodycam footage of Nowak’s arrest. The distressing footage captured the moment Nowak was handcuffed and dragged outside his family home, despite his pleas for help and difficulty breathing.
Hill expressed alarm at how quickly outdated media could be manipulated by algorithms and accepted as truth by AI platforms. She emphasized the lack of support from Hampshire Constabulary in correcting the false narrative promptly. Hill urged her network to share her clarification to counter online misinformation and ensure justice and clarity for the affected family.
