Glasgow’s anticipated music festival organized by Peter Gabriel, the former Genesis frontman, has been canceled due to low ticket sales. The World of Music, Arts and Dance (WOMAD) event was scheduled to debut in Kelvingrove Park on July 3 and July 4 but has been deemed financially unfeasible by Glasgow Life.

All ticket holders will receive full refunds and be offered discounted tickets for the next event at Neston Park in North Wiltshire from July 23 to 26. Despite promises of a diverse music lineup encompassing pop, dance, folk, jazz, and hip-hop, the festival’s Glasgow installment faced challenges in attracting sufficient audience numbers.

WOMAD, known for its global presence across 30 countries, boasts a history of hosting renowned artists like Peter Gabriel, Simple Minds, Crowded House, Macy Gray, De La Soul, and Echo and the Bunnymen. The Glasgow event was anticipated to feature performers such as Hollie Cook, Ustad Noor Bakhsh, and Peat and Diesel.

In a statement on WOMAD’s website, Glasgow Life expressed disappointment over the cancellation, attributing it to inadequate ticket sales for a sustainable inaugural festival in a competitive market. Refunds for the Glasgow event will be processed promptly, with options to attend the forthcoming event in North Wiltshire.

The festival organizers extended gratitude to all involved parties and apologized to ticket holders for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation. Despite the setback, WOMAD remains committed to delivering exceptional music experiences in the future.
