An 11-year-old boy, identified as Mackenzie Swift, has been reported missing after entering the River Don in Doncaster. South Yorkshire Police initiated a search for him around 8pm on Saturday when he was last seen near Ferry Boat Lane in Mexborough.
Collaborating with South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team, and an underwater search team, the authorities continued their search for Mackenzie on Monday. Despite ongoing efforts, the police informed Mackenzie’s family that it was unlikely for him to have survived in the water for an extended period.
Doncaster District Commander, Chief Superintendent Pete Thorp, expressed the commitment to finding Mackenzie and supporting his family during this challenging time. The search operation involves various specialist resources and organizations, with continuous efforts scheduled to resume early Tuesday morning.
While the public’s eagerness to assist is acknowledged, Chief Superintendent Pete Thorp urged individuals to refrain from conducting their own search activities near water bodies to avoid endangering themselves or others. The focus remains on locating Mackenzie, with thoughts and prayers directed towards him and his family.
