A security guard at a Tesco store in Salford, Mohamed Nassar, is in critical condition at the hospital after experiencing brain damage from a choking incident while on duty. The unfortunate event took place on May 8 at the Tesco Express store on New Bailey Street near Manchester city center.

Nassar, a 58-year-old father of three, was on a break when he choked on a doughnut, leading to a cardiac arrest. Paramedics were able to revive him after his heart stopped for 23 minutes. However, his family has been informed that he sustained severe brain damage as a consequence of the incident.

Originally from London, Nassar and his family relocated to Manchester in 2020 and reside in Ardwick. He had a background in music and has been employed by a security company for approximately five years.

His son, Seif Abdelwaneis, expressed the shock and distress the family felt upon learning about the incident. Nassar is currently on life support in intensive care at Manchester Royal Infirmary, undergoing assessments to evaluate the extent of his brain injury. Doctors have cautioned the family that his survival chances are slim.

Describing his father as a compassionate individual, Seif highlighted Nassar’s caring nature and dedication to his family. Nassar is well-known among customers for his helpful and friendly demeanor at the store. The family has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with financial support during this challenging period.

Friends and colleagues have attested to Nassar’s love for his family, especially his deep bond with his children and grandchildren. The community is rallying behind the family during this difficult time.
