NASA is gearing up to conduct a press event to unveil its strategies for establishing a permanent moon base. The organization defines the ‘Moon Base’ as a program created to support continuous human presence and enhance scientific and commercial endeavors at the lunar South Pole.

This announcement follows NASA’s significant Artemis II moon mission last month, where four astronauts completed a successful 10-day crewed lunar flyby, marking the first human voyage to the Moon since 1972. NASA administrator Jared Isaacman will discuss the agency’s moon base plans, emphasizing the United States’ renewed lunar ambitions, stating, “America is returning to the Moon.”

The live-streamed briefing on NASA’s “Moon Base” initiative is currently ongoing on NASA+ and the agency’s YouTube channel. NASA will soon present an update on its moon base plans, with various individuals participating in the briefing.

In a press statement, NASA declared its commitment to advancing the development of Moon Base, an extended lunar exploration and infrastructure project aimed at facilitating ongoing human presence and expanding scientific and commercial activities at the lunar South Pole. NASA’s mission involves sending astronauts on progressively challenging missions to explore more of the Moon for scientific discoveries, economic advantages, and to lay the groundwork for eventual crewed missions to Mars.

NASA is scheduled to conduct a news briefing today at 2pm EDT (7pm BST) to disclose its plans for the ‘Moon Base’ and showcase progress toward establishing a lasting presence on the lunar surface. The briefing will be held at NASA’s headquarters in Washington.
