PlayStation have raised the price of PS5—but we’ve found a way to still get one for £75 less

Published:

This week, the gaming industry has been abuzz with big news, as PlayStation announced a price increase for one of its flagship consoles. Starting yesterday (14 April), the PS5 will see its price tags change across UK retailers. But don’t panic just yet; there’s still one way to secure yourself or a loved one a console without breaking the bank, as one retailer offers a PS5 for £75 less than its new full price.

Over at Amazon, gaming enthusiasts and savvy shoppers can pick up the PS5 Digital (Slim) for £356.39, down from its current full price of £389.99 – that said, this model will be one experiencing a price increase, meaning this console’s RRP is £430 as of Sony’s new changes.

If you’re prepared to act fast, you can currently get your hands on a PlayStation 5 Digital Console for the majorly reduced price of £311.89, saving you £118 – but you’ll need to act fast, as of the time of writing this there are only two left in stock.

This PS5 Digital Edition allows players to get powerful gaming technology packed inside a sleek and compact console design that looks cool and takes up less room in your gaming setup. Perfect for keeping your favourite games ready and waiting for you to jump back into and play, this console boasts 1TB of built-in SSD storage, making it easy to build your game library without needing discs.

This console promises maximized play sessions. Its near-instant load times for installed PS5 games make it quicker and easier to jump back into Fortnight, Assassin’s Creed, or GTA. This console lets gamers enjoy smooth and fluid high-framerate gameplay at up to 120fps for compatible games, with support for 120Hz output on 4K displays.

The PS5 Digital console is set to increase to £430 but is right now available for £75 less than that at Amazon

Sony just released its new blog post, which revealed that several PS5 price increases are set to affect Europe, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Here’s every amended price for the console:

For those less tech-savvy or unsure of what this means, PlayStation released their PS5 console in two models: the PS5 (with a disc drive) and the PS5 Digital (without a disc drive), mirroring the likes of Xbox have their Series X (with a disc drive) and Series S (without a disc drive). This means that only the digital editions are currently experiencing the price increase. The price of the PS5 Pro and the PS5 Slim model remain unchanged.

These are some pretty lethal price increases for consumers, and they aren’t a nice change for players still hoping to play the current generation of games.

That said, there is something left for players, as PlayStation also revealed that there will be a PS5 Disc Drive price decrease to accommodate these changes, in hopes that players will be able to get stuck in by downgrading their purchase to a PS5 Digital Edition and upgrade later on. The new Disc Drive prices are as follows:

You can pick up a PlayStation Disc Drive here for £99.99 currently at Argos. You can also pick up a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition from Argos for £389.99.
