Two children and a woman were discovered deceased in their residence, leading to the arrest of a man, while law enforcement described the scene as ‘very traumatic and horrific’. Emergency responders were called to the location in south-western Sydney following a 000 emergency call on Monday evening. The bodies of a 46-year-old woman and two children, aged 12 and four, were found inside the house.
Acting Superintendent Michael Moroney stated that the 47-year-old man in custody was related to the deceased individuals. The crime scene was characterized as extremely distressing and gruesome by Moroney, who confirmed the arrest of Md Shomon-Ahamed at the Campbelltown residence where the bodies were found. The man was located within the same property as the victims, who showed signs of lacerations and severe injuries.
Moroney emphasized the violent nature of the incident but refrained from disclosing details about any weapons recovered, mentioning only the discovery of several items without the involvement of firearms. He clarified that Shomon-Ahamed was not known to law enforcement previously, and no additional suspects were being pursued. While mental health factors were not immediately evident, they would be investigated as part of the ongoing inquiry.
A significant police presence persisted at the suburban Sydney location, with officers securing the area around the property. The investigation is being conducted by Campbelltown detectives with support from the State Crime Command’s homicide squad, urging individuals with relevant information to come forward.
The tragic event unfolded shortly after NSW Police announced numerous arrests in a statewide crackdown on recurrent domestic violence offenders. Moroney stressed the commitment of NSW Police to combatting domestic violence, citing recent statistics indicating the prevalence of intimate partner violence against adult females and child victims within familial settings.
