A young boy, Toma-Alexandru Zerestea, known as Alex, was found safe and well after being lost in a forest inhabited by bears for almost three days. The incident occurred in the Ruscă region near Sebeșu de Jos, Romania, while his father was repairing a fence.
Alex wandered off while his father was briefly distracted, prompting a massive search operation involving numerous rescue teams, drones, and thermal imaging equipment due to the challenging terrain and the presence of dangerous wildlife in the area.
After an extensive search, the boy was located by a Black Hawk helicopter from the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ General Inspectorate of Aviation about 1.5 miles away from where he was last seen. A search-and-rescue operative, Mihail Soare, descended to the boy on a trolley and provided assistance until ground crews arrived.
Following the rescue, Alex was taken to Sibiu Clinical Paediatric Hospital, where doctors confirmed his stable condition despite exhaustion and exposure. His father expressed immense relief upon being reunited with his son.
Authorities hailed the successful rescue as a miracle given the risks associated with the forest environment. An investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances of the incident, although initial findings suggest that Alex simply wandered away from his father.
The heartwarming reunion and safe return of the young boy have left rescuers and family members overjoyed, emphasizing the importance of swift and coordinated search efforts in such challenging situations.
