Locals in Brighton are deeply concerned after the discovery of three women’s bodies in the water off Brighton beach, raising fears of a tragic misjudgment. Emergency services responded to a welfare call around 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday, leading to the recovery of the bodies near Madeira Drive.

Sussex Police are conducting an investigation into the deaths amidst speculations that the women might have been swept away from shore while venturing into the sea and slipping off a coastal ledge. The treacherous seabed terrain close to the beach, with a steep shingle shelf, has been highlighted as a potential danger zone for unsuspecting visitors.

Authorities regularly issue warnings, especially around the Palace Pier area, where the shingle drops sharply, advising caution to prevent accidents. The ongoing inquiry is exploring the possibility that the women lost their footing on the unstable shingle surface, leading to their tragic demise.

Sussex Police have indicated that the women’s identities have been established, with their families notified, but their names will not be disclosed publicly until formal identification procedures are completed. The investigation continues into the circumstances that led to the women being in the water, with no indications of foul play or external involvement.

Chief Superintendent Adam Hays expressed profound sadness over the incident, emphasizing the need for patience as they strive to unravel the details surrounding the women’s deaths. Police and coastguard teams were deployed along the seafront and the shingle beach, with a visible presence of search and rescue operations in the area.

Brighton and Hove City Council leader Bella Sankey conveyed her shock and sorrow over the tragedy, extending condolences to the families of the deceased women. The beach was reopened later in the day, with authorities concluding their on-site activities following the distressing turn of events.
