A man has been accused of attempting to extort £5 million from the prestigious private members’ club, Soho House, by threatening to disclose clients’ information, a court revealed.
The individual, identified as Amit Sharma, 50, allegedly engaged in a high-value scheme at the renowned club, frequented by notable figures such as Harry and Meghan, who frequented the Dean Street location in London for their initial and subsequent dates in July 2016.
Sharma appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court facing three charges. According to reports, between June 30 and August 8 the previous year, he purportedly demanded £5 million from Soho House’s chief, Andrew Carnie, in a blackmail endeavor.
Another charge against Sharma involves unauthorized computer access with the intention of committing other offenses from June 1 to August 9, 2025. It is alleged that in London, Sharma manipulated a computer to gain unauthorized access to a program or data, aiming to secure customer data without permission. Additionally, he is accused of harassing Soho House staff during the same timeframe.
Soho House & Co, the parent company of numerous private members’ clubs worldwide, reportedly counts Harry and Meghan among its exclusive members. The club boasts a waitlist exceeding 99,000 individuals and includes other prominent personalities like the Beckhams, Taylor Swift, Margot Robbie, Kate Moss, and James Corden.
Among the speculated celebrity members are Leonardo DiCaprio, the Gallagher brothers, and Kendall Jenner, although there is no indication that their personal information was compromised.
Sharma, a resident of Bromley, south London, only confirmed personal details during the court appearance. The prosecution alleged that Sharma repeatedly threatened to sell client information to the company through numerous messages.
Following the hearing, Sharma was granted bail with the condition that he refrains from contacting Soho House employees. The case has been referred to Woolwich Crown Court, with the next session scheduled for June 8.
Soho House has established 48 establishments across 19 nations, with its inaugural site opening on 40 Greek Street in Soho back in 1995. The club, originating above Nick Jones’ Cafe Boheme, now includes Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds.
