An explosion shook the Scarborough area early this morning, leading to the evacuation of numerous homes. Emergency services including the police, ambulance, and North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue responded to the incident on Cambridge Street following the explosion, which occurred just before 6 am.

According to a resident interviewed by This Is The Coast, people were startled awake by a “loud boom” around 5:45 am. As a safety measure, Cambridge Street and Victoria Road have been cordoned off, with restricted access to the Aldi supermarket.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue reported that they are collaborating with multiple agencies to address the explosion at a residential property on Cambridge Street. The incident prompted the evacuation of approximately 50 to 70 nearby residences and businesses, with an active cordon in place.

Emergency response teams, including firefighters, the ambulance service, police, and the gas board, are on-site managing the situation. The public is advised to steer clear of the area while authorities work to resolve the incident. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
