A woman experienced two instances of death and revival following a routine medical procedure for a suspected ectopic pregnancy. Hinda Abrahams, aged 28, underwent what was expected to be a simple laparoscopic surgery but ended up in intensive care after her heart stopped twice due to an allergic reaction to anesthesia, causing her to be clinically dead for 20 seconds. Upon regaining consciousness, she realized the severity of the situation, reflecting on the prolonged operation duration and her critical condition.

The incident unfolded on January 30 when Hinda started feeling abdominal discomfort and spotting, despite being consistent with her birth control regimen and having had a regular menstrual cycle just a fortnight earlier. Concerned about her symptoms, her husband, Theodore, insisted she seek medical attention. Hinda suspected an ectopic pregnancy due to her symptoms and was surprised when the test confirmed her suspicions, given her adherence to birth control and breastfeeding.

An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the womb, often in a fallopian tube. Following the diagnosis, doctors determined she was experiencing a miscarriage and identified a mass near her left ovary. Surgery was promptly scheduled to address the suspected ectopic pregnancy, with an estimated duration of 45 minutes. However, complications arose during the procedure, leading to her husband being informed of her cardiac arrests caused by a severe allergic reaction.

Despite the dire situation, Hinda survived the ordeal, waking up in the intensive care unit surrounded by medical staff. She faced challenges such as being intubated, connected to various IV lines, and developing pneumonia and signs of heart failure. Fortunately, doctors indicated that she did not have any pre-existing heart conditions. Hinda’s recovery journey started in the hospital and continues at home, where she is coming to terms with the miraculous turn of events.

Reflecting on her experience, Hinda expressed gratitude for her survival and emphasized the importance of not dismissing pregnancy tests at hospitals, citing her own situation as an example where knowing about the ectopic pregnancy early could have been life-saving. She remains amazed by her second chance at life and the absence of permanent injuries, recognizing the incident as a true miracle.
