Kate Garraway beaming as she returns to host ITV show after 10 years

Published:

Kate Garraway has revealed that she will be guest-hosting ITV’s Lorraine today – ten years on since she was official holiday cover for the show. The TV presenter confirmed the news during Good Morning Britain, as hosts Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins checked in with Lorraine to see who was coming up on the show today.

Kate is no stranger to Lorraine, with the broadcaster having regularly hosted Friday shows and filled in for holiday cover until 2014. Now 11 years on, Kate is back on the show and couldn’t stop smiling as she shared the news with her GMB colleagues.

Throwing over to Kate on the Lorraine set, Charlotte said: “Look who’s here for Lorraine this morning – it’s Kate. Look at you in a different studio.”

Kate replied: “I feel like I’m on holiday, Charlotte. I don’t know what’s going on. A later start, I’ve been looked after by everybody. It’s very exciting.

“I feel like I’m having a nice time but I’ve actually got to do a show.”

She went onto reveal that today’s show will see the brother of Celebrity Big Brother star Chris Hughes stop by to speak about his involvement in Mickey Rourke’s sudden exit as well as Larry Lamb and the winners of Gladiators.

Kate is a regular fixture on Good Morning Britain usually, having been with the show since it started out as GMTV in 2000.

Last month, Kate led GMB’s coverage of Rachel Reeves‘ spring statement and found herself in a heated debate with guest Mel Stride, the shadow chancellor.

After the Tory politician attacked the spring statement and said how the government should have put into place a “serious welfare reform”, Kate weighed in. “Well that’s your view, minister, as people might say,” Kate rebutted. “She would say she’s digging herself out of a hole that 14 years of Conservative government have left her in.”

In March, Kate opened up about becoming a single parent after the tragic death of her husband Derek Draper last year. The TV presenter has daughter Darcey, 19, and son William, 15, with the late Derek and admitted that the “hardest part of grieving” is parenting without him.

“There are so many moments where I just think, ‘Derek, where are you?’” she told the Daily Mail Weekend Magazine. “Now, I have to take on everything – the fun parent, the one keeping everyone on track, and the one panicking, yelling, ‘Oh my God, you’re going to fail everything!’” she admitted. “I make so many mistakes, but don’t we all? Is there really such a thing as a perfect mother?”
