Aldi has once again secured the title of the most affordable supermarket for the month, as per the recent price analysis conducted by Which?. The comparison involved 89 items on the shopping list in February, revealing that the average cost at Aldi was £161.56 throughout the month.

Lidl followed closely behind, with its list priced at £162.75, just £1.19 more expensive than Aldi. Asda claimed the third position with £181.06, while Tesco, with a Clubcard, was slightly higher at £181.58.

The shopping list encompassed a mix of branded and own-brand products like Birds Eye Peas, Hovis bread, milk, and butter. In contrast, Waitrose emerged as the priciest supermarket this month, with an average total of £217.02 for a smaller selection of items, marking a £55.46 difference compared to Aldi.

In a separate comparison, Which? evaluated prices for a longer list of 225 items, determining Tesco as the most budget-friendly option for Clubcard members. The extensive shop at Tesco amounted to £580.35, making it cheaper than Asda by £3.97.

For non-Clubcard holders, the same Tesco shop totaled £629.25, £48.90 more expensive. Notably, Aldi and Lidl were not part of this evaluation due to their narrower product range compared to other supermarkets.

Waitrose maintained its position as the most expensive on average, with the more extensive shop costing £650.11, a difference of £69.76 compared to Tesco with a Clubcard. The analysis factored in special offer prices and loyalty discounts where applicable, excluding multibuy deals.

Reena Sewraz, Which? Retail Editor, emphasized Aldi’s cost-effectiveness but highlighted Lidl as an excellent choice for budget-conscious shoppers. She also mentioned Tesco’s value for branded products through Clubcard savings and advocated for broader access to these benefits.

In a challenging financial climate, the analysis underscores the significance of strategic shopping choices in saving substantial amounts annually.
