Nigel Farage faced a group of displeased demonstrators during his trip to the Shetland Islands, where one individual labeled him a ‘scrounger.’ The leader of Reform UK was observed engaging in campaign activities in Lerwick today following a party rally in Aberdeen the previous night.

A video circulating on social media captured Farage outside public restrooms engaging with a protester, suggesting the need for more affluent individuals in politics to elevate everyone’s financial status. The protester retorted by accusing Farage of promoting the idea of having more wealthy politicians like himself, labeling them as freeloaders.

Farage responded by gesturing dismissively and walking away. In an interview with local outlet Shetland News, he criticized the protesters as examples of “modern-day Marxism,” describing them as “deluded” and expressing a sense of unease about their actions.

A sign displayed along a major road in Shetland seemingly insulted Farage, referring to him as a derogatory term. Reform UK is participating in the Scottish parliament election on May 7, currently ranking third in recent opinion polls behind Labour and the SNP. Vic Currie is representing the party in the Shetland constituency vote.

Scottish Labour candidate John Erskine commented on Farage’s visit, anticipating that the people of Shetland, similar to those in Scotland, would reject him at the upcoming polls. Erskine criticized Farage as a divisive figure who would only aid the SNP in maintaining power, suggesting that what Shetland truly needs is change rather than further divisive politics.

During a rally in Aberdeen, Farage expressed confidence in Reform UK’s potential to secure a significant position in Holyrood by 2031. He emphasized the party’s ambition to gain control and power in the future, outlining a strategic plan led by Malcolm Offord in Scotland.
