Temperatures in up to 26 UK counties are expected to reach 20C or higher based on the latest weather forecasting maps. The ECMWF model predicts a heat surge later this month, with some areas possibly reaching 23C. The peak temperatures are forecasted for April 29, specifically in the south-east and along the south coast around 6pm. Additionally, warm weather is anticipated in East Anglia, the Midlands, and parts of Wales.
Northern regions won’t be as cold either, with Northern Ireland and southern Scotland expecting highs of 18C and the Scottish Highlands around 16C. However, the real warmth is expected in the southern regions, where temperatures could surpass 20C on April 29 in 28 counties.
Despite the warmth, the Met Office warns of cold air and wintry showers in some parts of the country. From April 22 to May 1, high pressure is likely to dominate, leading to mostly dry conditions. However, there may be exceptions with frontal zones bringing rain and breezy conditions. Towards the end of April, a brief cold spell is possible, especially in the north and east, before milder conditions return.
Looking ahead to May, the Met Office foresees evolving weather patterns with high pressure to the north or northwest and low pressure closer to the south. This setup could result in drier conditions in the north and west, with more rain or showers in the south and east. Overall, temperatures are expected to be near or slightly above average, with the potential for chilly nights and late-season frost, especially in northern areas.
