A documentary about the final weeks of Caroline Flack’s life has hit rocky ground, a new report has claimed. The TV presenter took her own life in February 2020 aged just 40 with friends and fans paying emotional tributes to the former Love Island host shortly after her tragic death.
Caroline’s heartbroken mum Christine has since been channelling her grief into preventing others from suffering the same devastating loss, and in the new Disney+ film, will question the events of her daughter’s last 24 hours, the fateful night she took her own life, and if her death could have been prevented.
However, the Mail On Sunday has claimed that producers are struggling to get Caroline’s friends to speak on camera because they simply don’t feel comfortable discussing the last moments of their lost friend with her heartbroken mum.
Speaking to the publication, one source said: “Some of the people who have been approached believe this is an attempt to rewrite history and find someone new to blame for this total tragedy.
“[Christine] wants to know why certain people made certain decisions about Caroline, like why did she wear that short black skirt to court, which she was criticised for, why was she taken off Love Island, why did certain people write what they did about her in the media and why did her friends leave her alone before she took her own life?
“The production team are really struggling to get people to participate. They’re going to have to rethink their approach if they want to make this show at all.”
The Mail On Sunday also claimed that two of Caroline’s closest friends, hairdresser Louise Teasdale and Mollie Grosberg, who were with her hours before she died, were among the friends approached by the team at Curious films. The publication reported that Christine has never understood why the women left her daughter alone during a mental health crisis.
The source added: “Caroline’s death has haunted her friends and changed their lives, there is a view that she should just be left to rest in peace. Maybe everyone involved in the programme thought it would be a lot easier than it was to get people to take part.”
A Disney+ spokesperson said: “Filming for Caroline (w/t) began in 2024 and is still underway, as planned. The documentary film features contributions from Caroline’s family and friends, to help understand the events in the final months of her life.”
The MailOnline previously reported that Louise and Mollie have asked why it was “down to them” to look after Caroline. According to the report, a close friend of Louise said: “Why was it down to Caroline’s friends to look after her? Where was her family? Louise had to get back to her young daughter, she couldn’t stay any longer.”
“They had been with Caroline for hours and hours and they tried to get her to go to hospital but she wouldn’t. They remained at her flat to make sure she was OK but they couldn’t stay there indefinitely, so they went. It is devastating that they now have Caroline’s mother blaming them. Christine was once so close to Lou but not any more.”
Caroline’s friend Mollie has reportedly said that she would never get over the events of that night. The source told MailOnline: “She was a good friend to Caroline. She would have done anything for her.”
Caroline took her own life after learning that her criminal trial for allegedly assaulting then-boyfriend, Lewis Burton, 32, was going ahead. She had initially being told she would only be given a caution. Following a late-night explosive row between the couple in December 2019, the star was arrested and charged with assaulting the model.
When the documentary was announced last year, Christine said in a statement: “I still have so many questions about what happened to Caroline in her final months, and it’s something I feel deeply compelled to explore, even though I know it will be challenging.
“I’m pleased to be working with the team at Curious Films once again, in the hope of bringing clarity and understanding to Carrie’s story – not just for her, but for everyone who cared about her.”
