Iran’s supreme leader has criticized Donald Trump for the harm and defamation he has caused the Iranian nation during recent anti-government protests. Trump had initially threatened action against Iran if it harmed demonstrators but later adopted a more conciliatory stance, claiming no executions had taken place.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in his first post since January 12, accused protesters of colluding with foreign elements, including Trump and other “foreign terrorists.” Khamenei attributed the protests to “American sedition” aimed at undermining Iran, asserting that the nation must resist both foreign and domestic instigators.
Furthermore, Khamenei blamed individuals associated with Israel and the US for significant damages and casualties during the unrest. Despite Trump’s warnings and White House statements keeping all options open, a potential strike on Iran was averted following advice from advisors concerned about the consequences of such an action.
Trump expressed gratitude on Friday for Iran’s decision not to execute hundreds of political prisoners, acknowledging the restraint. The situation in Tehran appears to have calmed down, with life returning to normal, although an internet blackout persists. Reports indicate a death toll of 3,090 from the recent protests, making it the deadliest unrest in Iran in years.
