Lady Colin Campbell has opened up about her steamy affair Gavin & Stacey icon Larry Lamb. The Jamaican aristocrat has previously remained tight lipped on her romances following her divorce from her husband, Lord Colin Ivar Campbell in 1975 – just one year after the aristocrats tied the knot.
The reality star and author who has not remarried has said that while she was clearly in love with the actor, 77, the pair couldn’t marry one another. While outspoken Lady C has remained unmarried since her divorce, actor Larry has been married twice.
He first tied the knot with Anita Wisbey in 1969 before divorcing one year later. He later married Linda Martin in 1979 with their marriage ending in divorce in 1996 – the same year he started dating actress Clare Burt, who he split from in 2016. Speaking on a podcast, Lady C claims she was around 27 or 28 when she had her affair with Larry.
“I had a roaring affair with Larry Lamb,” she claimed. She went on to add: “Larry is a great guy, he was gorgeous and is still good looking. He has impeccable manners.” She also claims that her cousin and brother were both in agreement that her father would have “loved Larry.”
Speaking on best’s Suddenly Single podcast, Lady C continued: “He was decent person, intelligent, hard working. The fact he didn’t come from our world is neither here nor there. Larry, I used to say, is one of nature’s aristocrats. It quickly became apparent that Larry was not going to be an ideal husband for the long haul.”
Meanwhile, Lady C has previously said that Larry was “pumping testosterone in all directions,” during their six month relationship in the summer of 1978. She added: “Larry was absolutely rampant, he was a very naughty boy.” Lady C and Larry met during the opening of London’s Ritz Casino, where he caught her eye from across the room.
Despite her ex-husband sharing false rumours that Lady C, whose real name is Georgina was born a man, Larry paid no intention to this. Lady C had been raised as a boy having been born with genital deficiencies. She said that the rumours worked in her favour as it made sure men who were not comfortable in their own masculinity would run a mile.
She said: “Larry doesn’t have any doubts about his masculinity. He was aware of the situation and he didn’t care about it, he knew it was rubbish.” Although she is single, she admits that this is her own choice as she’s “too busy to be bothering with men.”
“I don’t have the time for romance,” she said. She went on to state: “I refused to date after I left my husband. I’m not a seal jumping through a hoop in the bloody circus.”
However, the has been one man who Lady C was in love with between the 1970s and the 1990s – this is said to have made the late Diana, Princess of Wales jealous.
Lady C said: “The most romantic thing he ever said – and Diana Wales used to say she envied me for having been told it – was ‘I would love you even if you were a goat’. Which I thought was so wonderfully romantic and so did she.”
Although she’s had her fair share of tense romances, Lady C isn’t a big fan of packing on the affection in public. “O+PDAs are an absolute no. If you’re going to be a b*tch on heat, try to do it in private,” she fumed.
The Mirror has approached Larry Lamb’s spokesperson for comment.
