A frightened 15-year-old girl was brutally assaulted by two teenagers in a park incident, where she was forced to her knees and subjected to a rape. The victim, in a state of trauma, sought help from a female passerby, but unfortunately, no assistance was provided. The distressing event occurred in a secluded area of parkland in Leamington Spa back in May, where the two teenage boys, Jan Jahanzeb and Israr Niazal, both 17 years old, attacked the girl.
The youths have been handed lengthy youth detention sentences of 10 years and eight months for Jahanzeb and nine years and 10 months for Niazal following the disturbing assault. The judge decided to reveal the identities of the perpetrators due to concerns that maintaining reporting restrictions could lead to false accusations and public unrest.
Prosecutor Shawn Williams revealed during the court proceedings that both defendants were unaccompanied child asylum seekers. The assault took place after the victim became separated from her friends in a grassy area. Jahanzeb, who fled Afghanistan and underwent age verification upon arriving in the UK, was identified as 17 years old. Niazal arrived in the UK a year before and was placed under the care of the local authorities.
Video evidence presented in court demonstrated Jahanzeb summoning Niazal to join him in the assault. The victim’s distress was evident as she pleaded for help, but Jahanzeb silenced her. The girl was forcibly taken to a secluded area where the assault occurred. Despite her resistance, the victim was overpowered by the perpetrators.
The victim was eventually aided by a member of the public who stayed with her until help arrived. In a statement read in court, the victim expressed the profound impact the incident had on her sense of safety and well-being. The defense attorneys highlighted the difficult circumstances the perpetrators had faced in their home countries, but the severity of the crime warranted significant detention periods.
