Fierce storms on the Costa del Sol this week have resulted in a fatality. One of the two men who went missing after being swept away by the current in Malaga has been discovered deceased. This incident occurred amidst red weather alerts in the region.
The duo vanished in Alhaurín el Grande last night, and today, one of the men’s bodies was located several kilometers away from the damaged van found in the Fahala River. The alarm was raised this morning when it was reported that the two local residents, aged 53 and 54, were unaccounted for.
The pair was last spotted leaving a restaurant last night en route to Malaga, entering their vehicle heading towards Las Lomas. It is presumed that due to the floods, they abandoned the car to proceed on foot.
The search effort is ongoing to locate the remaining individual, involving approximately 100 participants, including security force personnel and volunteers. The operation spans the entire course of the Fahala River and its mouth.
Various agencies such as the Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection volunteers, Provincial Firefighters Consortium (CPB), and other resources mobilized by the City Council are actively engaged. Helicopters, patrols, and the Special Group for Underwater Activities (GEAS) have been deployed, as confirmed by the Subdelegation of the Central Government in Malaga.
Canine units from the SOS Desaparecidos Association have also joined the search. Authorities have assured that the search will persist as long as necessary and have urged citizens to exercise caution.
In a separate incident, a motorcyclist was swept away while attempting to cross a stream in Íllora (Granada) during the storm. The man, riding with two others near the Sierra de Parapanda, was carried away when crossing the river, which had risen due to the heavy rainfall, and is currently missing.
