A tragic incident on the A19 has claimed the lives of two teenagers, as a 19-year-old male driver of a Vauxhall Corsa involved in the collision passed away on Saturday. The crash occurred on November 24 on the northbound carriageway in Sunderland, where a 17-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly past 11 pm, Northumbria Police received a report of the collision involving the dark yellow vehicle between the B1404 at Seaham and the A690 Herrington Interchange. The Corsa veered off the carriageway and crashed under circumstances yet to be determined.
Both the male driver and the female passenger sustained severe injuries in the collision. Despite paramedics’ efforts, the girl succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while the driver was taken to the hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities are urging any witnesses to the incident to come forward with information. Sergeant Christopher Herron of Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and emphasized the importance of any information that could shed light on the incident.
Emergency services, including the North East Ambulance Service and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, responded to the scene to provide assistance and medical care.
