An elderly woman passed away following a suspected serious assault on Christmas Day despite paramedics’ efforts to save her. The woman, aged in her 80s, died at a residence in Devizes, Wiltshire. A 63-year-old woman, described by police as “acquainted with the victim,” has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Authorities have stated that they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident and are actively trying to locate the deceased woman’s next of kin.
The 63-year-old suspect was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital after the police responded to reports of an assault on Keepers Road in Devizes at 8:10 am on the same day. A cordoned-off area is anticipated to remain in place throughout Christmas Day.
Detective Inspector Alan Smith, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, expressed, “This is a sorrowful occurrence where an elderly woman lost her life on Christmas Day. We have apprehended a suspect known to the victim, and we can confirm no further individuals are being sought in connection with the incident. A crime scene has been established at the flat, and a prompt investigation, involving door-to-door inquiries, is underway.”
