Police apprehend individual attempting to open airplane door during flight
Law enforcement in Hong Kong has detained a passenger who allegedly tried to open an aircraft door mid-flight on a Cathay Pacific journey from Boston to Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific has confirmed that no passengers or crew members were harmed, and the flight landed safely on Thursday morning.
The incident is now under the jurisdiction of Hong Kong police. Cathay Pacific stated, “Our flight attendants promptly addressed the situation, verified that the door was securely shut, and notified the appropriate authorities and law enforcement.”
The matter has been transferred to the police for further investigation. Cathay Pacific emphasized, “The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority in all decisions we make.”
Hong Kong police reported that a 20-year-old male from mainland China was taken into custody early Thursday on suspicion of breaching the Aviation Security Ordinance.
