Jamie Vardy and his wife Rebekah experienced a burglary at their newly acquired Italian villa over the weekend, carried out by a group of thieves. The couple had recently relocated to Italy after Vardy’s move to Cremonese, and the incident took place while Vardy was away playing against AS Roma on Sunday, as reported by The Mail.
According to the report, three burglars managed to break into the Vardy’s lavish villa, taking away cash, jewelry, watches, and other valuable items, including a Patek Philippe watch. Authorities suspect that the thieves had been monitoring Vardy and his family, choosing the timing of the break-in while he was in Rome.
Police sources revealed that CCTV footage captured the individuals entering the house through an open window and spending several minutes inside before fleeing with the stolen items. Fortunately, there was a woman present at the time, identified as the babysitter and not Vardy’s wife.
Vardy, the former England striker, and his family had settled in the historic city of Salo during the summer, residing in a £2 million luxury residence overlooking Lake Garda in northern Italy. The 37-year-old had joined Cremonese after parting ways with Leicester following their relegation from the Premier League, concluding a remarkable 13-season tenure with the Foxes before embarking on his overseas venture.
