Netflix now streaming thrilling extended version of ‘horror masterpiece’ that gave fans a ‘panic attack’

Published:

Netflix has just added a blood-soaked, unrated version of one of the most popular horror films of the past decade.

Originally released to cinemas in 2018, this supernatural slasher was severely edited to ensure a PG-13 rating in the States so younger teens could see it on the big screen.

Unfortunately, it mostly received negative reviews despite becoming a box office success and a potential sequel was eventually cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since then, it’s gradually developed a passionate cult following, with horror-heads lapping up the scares as a group of college students on holiday in Mexico play a game with deadly consequences.

Now, Truth or Dare’s extended director’s cut, with several scenes of additional material amping up the thrills, is available to stream on Netflix in the UK, giving the film another chance to shine.

The Hating Game’s Lucy Hale stars in this scandalous and spine-tingling slasher you won’t want to miss. Despite its unimpressive 15 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, it has plenty of defenders.

One five-star Google review reads: “I really liked it. It made me crawl in my skin because it was so uncomfortable to see, and a good type of frightening for me. I love teen horror movies and this one was really good!”

Someone else wrote: “I really liked it and I’m a picky movie watcher. Really unique and different, good plot, solid story and origin that is actually really good and cool. Definitely give it a chance.”

And another raved: “Amazing Film!! Totally worth watching! This movie is literally one of my favourite horror films. Definitely go check it out!!”

Truth or Dare also picked up some strong reviews from Letterboxd users, with one gushing: “Never before has a horror film frightened me so much and left me on the edge of my seat to the point of having a panic attack.

“Truth Or Dare is definitely a modern horror masterpiece! It’s so fantastic that the greats like Alfred Hitchcock and John Carpenter would be ashamed they ever made a horror film that didn’t live up to the amazing quality that is Blumhouse’s Truth Or Dare!

“F*** Hereditary, THIS is the best horror film and film of 2018! Can’t give it anything more than an A++.”

Sky is giving away a free Netflix subscription with its new Sky Stream TV bundles, including the £15 Essential TV plan.

This lets members watch live and on-demand TV content without a satellite dish or aerial and includes hit shows like Black Mirror and You.

Although there were also plenty of ironic five-stars from fans who would put Truth or Dare in the ‘so bad it’s good’ category.

One user said: “We need more silly bad movies in the horror genre like this.”

Another wrote: “This is my favourite bad movie. I especially love that they refer to the face people make as a bad snap chat filter.

“It’s too bad they never made the rumoured ‘meta-sequel’ featuring the cast as themselves playing the game. It would have been real cute. This movie walked so Smile could run (I say that half-heartedly.)”

And a final viewer wrote: “Obviously this is a terrible movie with almost no, legitimate, redeeming qualities about it.

“However, I have seen this movie at least 4 times by now and I think it is one of the absolute best times watching a movie I have ever had. I consistently cry laughing throughout the entire runtime of this ‘so bad it’s good’ masterpiece.

“Like I said, it’s obvious that this isn’t a good movie, but I always have the best experience watching it and showing it to other people.”

Will Truth or Dare scare you silly, or is it just silly? Check out the extended cut on Netflix now to find out.
