A major accident on the M6 caused the closure of the motorway for several hours while police conducted investigations.

The collision involving two vehicles occurred on the northbound lane of the M6 between junctions J2 Coventry and J3 Bedworth/Coventry in the early hours of Monday, November 24. Additionally, the link road from the southbound M69 to the northbound M6 at J2 was shut down. Traffic cameras captured long lines of stationary vehicles due to the incident.

Overnight, law enforcement officials were present at the scene as confirmed by National Highways. Significant delays were experienced near the closure site and on alternative routes, according to reports from Coventry Live.

A representative from National Highways stated, “Emergency services are present, with our Traffic Officers assisting in managing the traffic flow. Warwickshire Police is conducting a collision investigation, and the road is expected to remain closed for an extended period.”

Regarding the reopening of the affected areas, the National Highways spokesperson mentioned, “The M6 northbound between J2 and J3 Bedworth/Coventry has now fully reopened after the earlier collision. The M69 southbound link road to the M6 northbound has also resumed normal operation, with congestion gradually easing in the vicinity. We appreciate your patience and wish you a safe journey ahead.”

Furthermore, the National Highways representative provided an update, stating, “The M6 northbound section between J2 and J3 at Coventry/Bedworth remains closed following a serious collision. The collision investigation is nearing completion, and vehicles within the closure are being turned around via the rear of the queue.”

Drivers caught within the closure area are being redirected and released from the back of the queue by National Highways personnel. Motorists are advised to stay inside their vehicles and await instructions from traffic officers or the police.

For northbound travelers, the recommended diversion route marked by a Hollow Circle symbol on road signs should be followed.
