A 13-year-old girl, who was taken into custody following the discovery of a deceased woman in her 50s in Wiltshire, has been released on bail. The incident unfolded in Moredon around 7pm on Friday after authorities responded to reports of a disturbance. The woman, a resident of the property in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Wiltshire Police.
The teenager was apprehended on suspicion of murder and subjected to police interrogation before being granted bail pending further investigations. Wiltshire Police have assured the public of an escalated police presence in the vicinity as inquiries persist into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s demise.
In an official statement, Wiltshire Police affirmed, “There is no immediate threat to the public, and no additional suspects are being pursued in connection with this incident.” The authorities urged individuals to avoid engaging in unfounded speculation online to prevent prejudicing the ongoing investigation, advising concerned residents to liaise with their local Neighbourhood Policing Team for assistance.
A security cordon was established outside the residence on the day of the incident. Detective Inspector Darren Ambrose, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, emphasized the gravity of the situation following the girl’s arrest, stating, “This is a tragic event resulting in the loss of a woman’s life. As the investigation unfolds, we have secured the area with a cordon in place.”
