Matalan has issued an urgent recall for two soft toys, the Squishy Dino Egg and Squishy Unicorn Egg, due to a significant microbiological risk. These toys, shaped like eggs in various colors, contain an “aqueous solution,” beads, and a plastic dinosaur or unicorn inside.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards has cautioned that the toys pose a severe microbiological and choking hazard as they have the potential to burst, releasing small components and the solution.

According to the product recall advisory, the solution was found to have an excessive amount of aerobic microbials. Inhaling or touching the solution could expose users to these microbials, leading to potential health issues, especially for individuals with compromised immune systems.

The recall pertains to toys purchased between March 31 and May 23, 2025, as they do not comply with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. Matalan has instructed customers to cease using the products immediately and return them to any store for a complete refund, without requiring a receipt.

In their recall statement, Matalan emphasized the importance of returning the affected toys promptly to ensure customer safety. They also expressed regret for any inconvenience caused, highlighting their commitment to offering high-quality products at affordable prices.
