Train travelers planning to journey on specific dates in December could encounter disruptions due to fresh strike actions confirmed today. The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) has declared strikes on CrossCountry services next month, citing unresolved issues related to wages, staffing levels, and previous agreements. The RMT has scheduled strikes on four Saturdays in December: the 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th.
Eddie Dempsey, the general secretary of the RMT, expressed dissatisfaction with CrossCountry’s handling of the ongoing disputes, stating that the proposed resolution offered by the company is inferior to the previous terms. He emphasized that staffing shortages, inequitable pay structures, and unfulfilled promises still persist for RMT members. Consequently, strike action has been deemed necessary.
Dempsey urged CrossCountry to present a more substantial offer that aligns with the agreed commitments and upholds the principles of fairness and respect towards RMT members. Commuters are advised to stay informed about the latest developments regarding the strikes.
