Major supermarket chain to close hundreds of UK stores for one day this month

Published:

A major UK supermarket has announced that it will be shutting hundreds of its UK stores for one day this month. Asda has confirmed that it would – like other supermarket chains – be closing a large number of its supermarket stores this Easter.

There are two Bank Holidays on Easter weekend and they are Good Friday, which falls on April 18 this year, and Easter Monday, which is April 21. In the UK, Easter Sunday is classed as a public holiday – like Christmas Day – and under trading rules larger shops that are over 280 sq meters need to close on this day.

Asda has confirmed that all of its larger superstores will be closed on Easter Sunday. Although its smaller convenience stores – Asda Express – will remain open over the Bank Holiday weekend. Overall, Asda has 580 larger supermarket stores, alongside around 500 convenience stores across the country.

Shoppers should not panic about the closures, as Asda will be operating under their normal opening hours during the week, with the only change coming over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
