A woman passed away shortly after being attacked by a swarm of bees in the Ballycastle area of Ballina, Co Mayo, Ireland. The victim, a pensioner in her 70s, was airlifted to a hospital following the incident on Monday evening but unfortunately did not survive. Emergency services responded to the scene at around 5.40pm.

Another woman in her 40s also suffered injuries from the bee attack but her condition was reported as non-life threatening. The local authorities confirmed the death of the elderly woman in a statement released the same day. The incident is under investigation, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

In a separate incident last year, a six-year-old boy miraculously survived being stung over 1,100 times by bees on a farm in Sidrolandia, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The child, accompanied by his stepfather who was also injured, was rushed to the hospital in a coma but has since shown signs of improvement.

The boy’s father expressed gratitude for the boy’s recovery, noting the removal of medical devices and attributing it to a miracle. A toxicologist emphasized the critical role of immediate medical intervention in saving the boy’s life, as typically a high number of bee stings can be fatal.
