Nintendo Switch 2 live as UK pre-orders open with Amazon, Argos and Very launching stock

Published:

Gamers in the UK can finally pre-order Nintendo’s latest console as Switch 2 sales go live today. The Japanese tech giant finally unveiled its latest console on Wednesday and retailers around the country are now taking orders ahead of its June 5 release date.

Some retailers jumped the gun and opened pre-orders last week before quickly running out of stock, with official orders opening today. The console comes with a £395.99 price tag, with extras and add-ons available like the Mario Kart World bundle.

UK pre-orders are now open at the official My Nintendo Store on an invite-only basis and retailers including Amazon, Argos, EE, ShopTo and Very. We’re covering the launch live and will have all the information you need to ensure you get your hands on the Switch 2.

Stock is now coming and going at the below retailers but you may want to save the retailer pages and refresh.

Argos – Buy Here

Very – Buy Here

Amazon – Buy Here

Amazon has just started taking pre-orders for the Switch 2, but it’s quickly going in and out of stock. You can get your orders in for the console here if you’re quick.

There’s also stock of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle here.

It’s looking like Argos and Very are the only retailers taking Switch 2 pre-orders today, so we’re going to wrap things up for now. We’ll keep an eye on any developments and let you know as they come in, but for now, here’s where you can get your orders in for the Nintendo Switch 2:

Very still has stock of several Switch 2 console and game bundles, including the Switch 2 with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Donkey Kong Bananza (£525) and the Switch 2 with Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza (£496).

However, keep in mind that these won’t be delivered until the Donkey Kong release date on July 17. This Switch 2 with Mario Kart World and Street Fighter 6 (£479) will be available for the console’s release date of June 5.

It’s not completely smooth sailing though, as the Tech Radar team did point out some slight downsides to the Switch 2, namely its online game library and pricing. They said: “Once again, it does feel like Nintendo has fallen short when it comes to Switch Online’s retro libraries. For the new Nintendo GameCube lineup, performance was a little all over the place.”

Like many Nintendo fans, Tech Radar said they ‘take issue’ with some of the Switch 2 pricing, mainly what they described as its ‘eye-wateringly expensive’ software and paid ‘Nintendo Switch 2 Edition’ game upgrades.

The Switch 2 release date is still two months away and we’re yet to try it out for ourselves, but are curious about the initial thoughts of those who have been lucky enough to get their hands on it. The experts at Tech Radar said the Switch 2 ‘blew away’ their expectations, noting its sleeker design, larger screen and comfortable Joy-Con 2 controllers.

In terms of performance, they said: “Games on Nintendo Switch 2 ran well in my experience. Shockingly well in many instances. The fact the console’s 1080p handheld display can push 120fps and features HDR support is nothing short of astounding.”

All good so far, as they added: “I truly believe Nintendo Switch 2 is the console we’ve been waiting all these years for. I’m beyond impressed at its performance gains over its older sibling.”

It’s still only Argos and Very taking Switch 2 pre-orders. If you just want the console on its own or with Mario Kart world, head to Argos.

If you’re looking for the console bundled with a choice of games including Street Fighter 6 or Donkey Kong Bonanza, head to Very.

They’re coming thick and fast now, as Very is taking orders for the Switch 2 console bundled with a choice of games. There’s the Switch 2 Console with Mario Kart World and Street Fighter 6 (£479), the Switch 2 Console with Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza (£496) and the Switch 2 Console with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Donkey Kong Bananza (£525).

Looks like Very has now sold out of Switch 2 on its own, but there’s still some bundles available for pre-order. There’s the Nintendo Switch 2 with Mario Kart World and Samsung Mic6ro SD Card (£479) and the Switch 2 with Mario Kart World, Camera and Pro Controller (£555).

Now it’s Very‘s turn, with pre-orders live for the Switch 2 console here. It’s looking like the console and Mario Kart bundle is still unavailable for now.

It’s still all about Argos while stocks last. There’s nothing yet from our friends at Amazon, Currys, Game or ShopTo, but we’re keeping an eye out.

EE is now showing as out of stock, but Argos is still taking orders for both the Switch 2 console and the Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle.

It’s ramping up now. Argos has stock of both the Switch 2 console and the Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle. Go go go!

EE has now posted a large banner on its site confirming pre-orders are open and it looks like stock is still available. Have you got your order in? Email me at jake.hackney@reachplc.com to let me know.

And another one. EE is taking pre-orders of the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle (£429.99), get your order in here.

Anyone near a Smyths Toys store is in luck as the retailer has just started taking click and collect pre-orders. This is for both the Switch 2 console (£395.99) and the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle (£429.99).

Arguably the biggest game announcement at the Switch 2 launch event was for Mario Kart World. Available to pre-order now for £74.99 from retailers including Argos and Very, the lastest instalment lets gamers take control of 24 racers in locations including ‘grassy plains, bustling cities, wide-open waters and big ol’ volcanos’.

There’s also a choice of game modes including Grand Prix, Free Roam and Knockout Tour

After previously working on an invite-only basis, Amazon started sending out emails to customers last night confirming the console will be ‘available to purchase soon’. Our shopping expert Narin Flanders received one of these emails, which advised customers to check Amazon ‘regularly’ as the Switch 2 is likely to ‘sell out quickly’.

I’ve been checking Amazon all morning and have yet to see any stock, but it’s early days.

The console may be out of stock, but pre-orders are open for the new Nintendo Switch 2 Camera. Coming in at £49.99, this little gadget is a USB-C camera that can be used in tabletop mode or handheld mode, allowing you to video chat with friends while you’re gaming, or use any other in-game camera features.

This is available from the likes of Argos, Very and ShopTo.

Many Nintendo fans have been sharing their views on the high prices for new Switch 2 games, but not everyone is put off. Our tech writer Christopher Harper bagged not one, but two Switch 2 pre-orders last week and says he’s all for paying more if it means better games.

He said: “Nintendo has raised the bar when it comes to game prices – and we might see a bit of a domino effect on other games later on in 2025. But will I still buy them? Most likely because I’ve always believed game prices have been massively stagnant for years and if it means we can get better games, then I’m all for paying a bit more.”

Nintendo announced plenty of new games at the Switch 2 launch event. Among the most eye-catching are Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

There’s also new titles from The Legend of Zelda and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4. However, some of them come with pretty hefty price tags, with a Mario Kart pre-order setting you back £74.99.

The Switch 2 console may be out of stock, but there’s plenty of accessories up for grabs if you want to be prepared – or you’ve already bagged a console. At Argos, pre-orders are available for the Switch 2 Pro Wireless Controller (£74.99), the Joy-Con 2 Controller Pair (£74.99) and the Switch 2 Camera (£49.99).

These are also available at Very and Amazon.

We’re keeping a watchful eye on stock levels at EE, Amazon, Very, Argos, Currys, ShopTo and The Game Collection, but still nothing. The official Nintento store – known as the My Nintendo Store – is taking pre-orders on an invite only basis, which it says is to ‘reward the most dedicated players’.

Nintendo said: “To reward the most dedicated Nintendo Switch players in Europe and the UK, the opportunity to pre-order a Nintendo Switch 2 console from My Nintendo Store will initially be offered on an invite-only basis to selected Nintendo Switch Online members.”

However, Nintento add: “Over time, the selection criteria thresholds may be lowered and more people could be invited to pre-order a Nintendo Switch 2 console.”

At this rate, this could still be a way off, but we’ll be here to keep an eye on things.

While we wait and hope for more stock, we thought we’d check out the prices of the original Nintendo Switch. For those put off by the Switch 2’s £395.99 price tag, Amazon has dropped the Switch price down to £232, that’s around 35% cheaper than the new model.

It’s also available with the Switch Sports bundle for £244.95.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is proving elusive and is out of stock at the retailers we’re checking, including Amazon, Argos and Very. EE is advising shoppers to register their interest for updates, which you can do here.

Currys also has a form to fill in for customers wishing to receive news, which you can find here.

Welcome to our live blog. As gamers flurry to try and get their hands on the Nintendo Switch 2 our team has been rounding up the offers and the all-important stock levels.

It’s proving tricky to find the shiny new console in stock but we do have tips and tricks on how to boost your chances, plus the retailers still offering sign-up waitlists!
