Is Fortnite down? Server downtime schedule and what’s new in update 34.30

Published:

Fortnite is gearing up to kick into a new update, bringing with it the long-awaited arrival of one of the decade’s biggest pop superstars.

Update: Fortnite servers are now live as of 3.36am PDT / 6.36am EDT / 11.36am BST, making for a hefty downtime of just over two and a half hours. Drop in now!

Original story: Updates seem to be coming thick and fast from Fortnite at the moment, but it’s only for the season. After all, who doesn’t extensively celebrate April Fool’s Day? Joking aside, Epic Games certainly likes to take the day seriously, and it dropped its own April Fool’s Day quests to celebrate the chance to be particularly silly, as well as some major Mortal Kombat changes on the island and in players’ quest logs after the Fortnite downtime for update 34.21.

It has given way to new levels of excitement for the game, as we know to expect a lot of exciting new content – Fortnite has been teasing the arrival of Sabrina Carpenter as the new Fortnite Festival headliner for the last week or so, and now that the update 34.30 early patch notes have revealed that the new Ballistic map Hammer Fall is on its way, there’s a lot for many players to get excited for across the game’s many experiences – though there’s no doubt that the main island will enjoy a pestilence of Sabrina Carpenter skins too.

It’s all well and good to be excited, but we’re going to have to endure some Fortnite downtime before we get to the good stuff. But when exactly can we expect its end? Here’s what you need to know about the current Fortnite downtime.

Fortnite downtime will begin at 1am PDT / 4am EDT / 9am BST today, Tuesday, April 8. This was revealed by a new tweet from @FortniteStatus, and fits the recent trend of the game going down at a similar time, since the beginning of Chapter 6. As ever, the game boots players out of matchmaking half an hour before the Fortnite downtime starts.

Though there has been no official confirmation, we can expect the downtime to last around two hours. Servers were down for around two hours when the last update (34.21) rolled out, while update 34.20 downtime and update 34.21 downtime lasted one hour and 38 minutes, and two hours and a half hours – although the later ran over by an hour.

We can expect Fortnite servers to be down for somewhere between 90 minutes and two hours based on that, so expect Fortnite server downtime to end time at 2.30am PDT / 5.30am EDT / 10.30am BST today.

Leaks have been pouring out to indicate what we could be in for on the other side of this bout of Fortnite downtime, and though much of it is common knowledge for fans at this point, it doesn’t keep it from being exciting. Here’s what we can expect on the other side of the Fortnite downtime, as we investigated when we took a look at the Fortnite update 34.30 early patch notes:

There is also a good chance that the new update will reveal some new leaks pertaining to the game’s next mainline season, which is rumoured at this stage to be Star Wars-focused. Thankfully, either way, we won’t be waiting very long for the lid to be lifted on the fresh content for the game, after which we can expect the begin of the new Fortnite Festival season, and the start of a new gameplay experience for Ballistic fans. It’s going to be a big deal, especially for you pop girlies. And for us pop girlies, if we’re being honest.
