Former Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood, aged 68, faces charges related to sexual offenses involving seven women. The charges include four counts of rape, nine counts of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault spanning from 1983 to 2016.
Alleged incidents include an indecent assault on a 17-year-old girl in Fulham in 1983, a sexual assault on a woman in her 20s in Vauxhall in 1986, and the rape and sexual assault of a female aged 17-18 in London between 1995 and 1996. Further allegations involve similar offenses on females aged 17-18 in London during 2000-2001 and on a woman in her 20s in London in 2010, as well as a sexual assault in Stroud the same year.
In 2016, a woman in her 20s was allegedly sexually assaulted in Finchley, London. The charges pertain to different victims, totaling seven women. Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, of the Metropolitan Police Service, commended the courage of the women coming forward and urged others with information to reach out for support.
Tim Westwood began his radio career at LWR and later co-owned Kiss FM. He transitioned to Capital FM in 1987 before joining the BBC in 1994 to host a rap show on Radio 1. Westwood’s tenure at Radio 1Xtra ended in 2012, moving to a Saturday night rap show until 2013. He left the BBC in September 2013 following programming changes.
