A tragic fire engulfed a holiday hotel in Tenerife as a young guest fell to his death from a third-floor balcony. The incident occurred at the four-star Melia Costa Atlantis Hotel in Puerto de la Cruz, a northern port city. Approximately 490 guests, including some British visitors, were evacuated as firefighters swiftly responded to the scene. The identity of the deceased tourist who fell from the balcony where the fire originated has not been disclosed.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, with initial reports suggesting that a mattress in the room ignited. Local emergency services confirmed the fatality and the fire early in the morning following the incident. According to officials, the emergency calls reporting the fire came in just after 9 pm, prompting a rapid deployment of firefighters, ambulances, and police to the hotel on Venezuela Avenue. The evacuation process commenced upon their arrival, during which the tragic fall of the 23-year-old guest occurred.
The hotel management has not issued any official statements on social media regarding the incident. Fortunately, the evacuated guests were unharmed and were able to return to their rooms shortly after the evacuation order was lifted.
This event follows a similar tragedy earlier in the year when a British teenager lost his life after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Spain. The 19-year-old visitor died instantly in the fall at the four-star Ibiza Rocks Hotel on July 14, in the party hotspot of San Antonio, where another tourist, Evan Thomson, 26, had also tragically passed away two weeks prior.
