A tram accident in a city suburb has left a young boy with severe injuries, raising concerns of potential life-threatening consequences, as confirmed by the police.

Emergency response teams including police, paramedics, and fire crews are currently present at Brownley Road in Wythenshawe, near the Crossacres tram stop following the incident. The Greater Manchester Police spokesperson verified the occurrence of a “serious incident” involving the boy being struck by a tram and urgently transported to the hospital.

Due to the ongoing emergency response operations, the Metrolink service to Manchester Airport has been temporarily halted as stated by the authorities.

A police representative mentioned, “Emergency services are actively addressing a serious incident at Crossacres tram stop in Wythenshawe involving a boy who sustained significant and potentially life-threatening injuries. Tram services to Manchester Airport have been suspended to facilitate the emergency service investigations.”

Eyewitnesses observed the air ambulance and a significant presence of fire engines, ambulances, and police vehicles at Crossacres following the incident. Reports indicated that paramedics were attending to the injured boy at the location. Several road closures are enforced on Brownley Road, Crossacres Road, and Poundswick Lane, with the Crossacres stop cordoned off and a stationary Metrolink tram within the restricted area.

The North West Ambulance Service confirmed a serious tram collision involving a young patient this afternoon, leading to the swift hospitalization of the boy. Various emergency response resources, including advanced medical personnel, air ambulance, and operational commander, have been dispatched to the scene where a significant presence of police and fire officials is observed.

Transport for Greater Manchester’s spokesperson stated, “Emergency teams are managing an incident involving a young individual at the Crossacres tram stop on the Airport line. We are collaborating with the Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service during this response. Tram services between Roundthorn and the Airport are currently suspended, with potential disruptions expected for several hours.”

Road closures are in effect around the affected area, with bus routes redirected. For the latest updates and travel guidance, individuals are advised to refer to the TfGM website and social media platforms.
