Lewis Hamilton faced a series of setbacks during the Singapore Grand Prix, culminating in a post-race penalty. Despite struggling with brake failure towards the end of the race, Hamilton managed to secure seventh place.
During the final stint on soft tires, Hamilton showed promising speed after receiving clearance from teammate Charles Leclerc to pass and chase down Kimi Antonelli. However, as he overtook another car, visible signs of brake issues emerged, with brake dust and sparks observed from his Ferrari.
In the last two laps, Hamilton had to navigate cautiously around the track, allowing Leclerc to overtake him. Despite maintaining a clean race, Hamilton was at risk of finishing outside the top 10. Eventually, he crossed the finish line in seventh place, narrowly ahead of Fernando Alonso, who encountered his own challenges due to a brake failure.
Following a post-race investigation, Hamilton received a five-second time penalty for repeatedly leaving the track without valid justification. Consequently, he was demoted to eighth place in the final classification, trailing behind Alonso.
The stewards clarified that Hamilton’s attempts to manage the brake issue did not warrant his track excursions, leading to the imposed penalty. This decision was accepted without dispute by Hamilton’s team representative and the driver.
Alonso, who expressed frustration over the radio upon finishing just behind Hamilton, criticized the handling of the situation, questioning the safety of Hamilton driving with faulty brakes. Alonso’s outburst reflected his disappointment at the outcome.
