Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy faced a hostile reception at a vigil honoring the victims of the Manchester terror attack, with attendees heckling and booing him during his address. The Manchester Evening News reported that as Lammy took the stage, he was met with shouts of “shame on you,” “go to Palestine, leave us alone,” “you’ve allowed it to grow on the campuses,” and “you have blood on your hands.”

Despite the disruptions, the Deputy PM urged restraint, advising against participating in demonstrations over the weekend. He emphasized the importance of reflecting with dignity and refraining from escalating tensions.

Following the tragic incident at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue where worshippers Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, lost their lives due to an attack by terrorist Jihad Al-Shamie, opposition leader Keir Starmer condemned the act as a terrorist assault aimed at instilling fear within the Jewish community. Starmer called for unity and solidarity across all faiths in support of the Jewish community.

The Prime Minister echoed these sentiments, stressing the collective responsibility to combat antisemitism and ensure the safety of the Jewish community. He praised the swift and courageous actions of worshippers who defended themselves during the attack, noting that without their intervention, the outcome could have been even more tragic.

Expressing gratitude for the response to the attack, the Prime Minister commended the professionalism and quick action of those involved in containing the situation. He extended thanks to all individuals who played a role in responding to the incident, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and support for the affected community.
