Patrick, known for his role as ‘wheeler dealer’ Mickey Pearce, had previously battled lung cancer and encountered health challenges in his later years. A spokesperson for Patrick confirmed that he peacefully passed away in his sleep on Monday (September 29) surrounded by loved ones.

In a statement, Sir David Jason, renowned for his portrayal of Del Boy in the sitcom Only Fools, expressed his sadness over Patrick’s passing after his health struggles. He highlighted the tight-knit nature of the Only Fools cast and crew, stating that losing another friend from the show was poignant. Sir David extended his heartfelt condolences to Patrick’s family and friends.

Murray portrayed the character of Mickey Pearce, the comical sidekick to Sir David Jason’s Del Boy and Nicholas Lyndhurst’s Rodney Trotter, appearing in 20 episodes between 1983 and 2003 of the BBC comedy series.

A BBC representative conveyed their deep sadness at the news of Patrick Murray’s passing, acknowledging his beloved role as Mickey in Only Fools and Horses and expressing sympathy for his loved ones.

The sitcom revolves around brothers and market traders Del Boy and Rodney as they navigate the ups and downs of trying to strike it rich through various business ventures.

Murray disclosed his cancer diagnosis in July 2021 and underwent surgery to remove a lung tumor in its early stages, followed by chemotherapy in January 2022. Subsequent medical assessments revealed an unrelated treatable tumor in his liver.

In a health update in May 2022, Murray shared positive news of his lung cancer being cured and the shrinking of the liver tumor. However, by April 2023, he revealed the unfortunate return of his lung cancer.

Besides his role in Only Fools And Horses, Murray featured in the 1979 films Quadrophenia and Scum, the 1990s TV sitcom The Upper Hand, as well as appearances in The Bill, ITV Playhouse, and Bergerac.
