Keir Starmer commended the bravery of emergency services and security personnel for averting a larger tragedy following a terrorist attack at a synagogue in Manchester. In a statement from No10, the Prime Minister extended condolences to the victims’ families and those affected by the “horrific incident,” assuring the Jewish community of the nation’s support in the days ahead.

“I assure you that in the coming days, you will witness the compassionate and decent side of Britain,” expressed Mr. Starmer. He further conveyed gratitude to the Greater Manchester police, first responders, and security experts for their courageous efforts in preventing a more devastating outcome.

Amid the crisis, the Prime Minister interrupted a meeting with European leaders in Denmark to convene an emergency Cobra meeting in London regarding the attack, which claimed the lives of two individuals within the Jewish community during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. The rise of anti-Semitic sentiments was highlighted during the Cobra meeting attended by Mr. Starmer, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, and other officials.

Pointing out the necessity for continuous protection of Jewish establishments due to the growing threat of anti-Semitic sentiments, Mr. Starmer emphasized the need to confront this resurgence of hatred in Britain. He assured the Jewish community of increased police presence and vowed to ensure their security.

Addressing the Jewish population directly, the Prime Minister acknowledged the fear prevailing within the community and pledged to take all necessary measures to provide the security they deserve. He reiterated the solidarity of the country and expressed regret that such fears persist, promising a united front of compassion and support for the Jewish community in Britain.
