A 93-year-old man passed away after being involved in a traffic accident in Northern Ireland over the weekend. Authorities responded to the crash on Newry Road in Rathfriland, County Down, involving a silver Toyota Avensis and a pedestrian, late Saturday night.
Law enforcement officials were alerted to the incident around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday. Despite the prompt arrival of officers and emergency responders at the scene, the pedestrian, identified as 93-year-old Patrick Joseph Brady (Patsy) from the Barnmeen area, was pronounced dead.
Chief Inspector Simpson confirmed the tragic incident and mentioned that the driver of the Toyota did not appear to have suffered serious injuries. Following the collision, the Newry Road was temporarily shut down but has since been reopened to traffic.
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities urge anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant digital recordings to come forward and assist the Collision Investigation Unit by contacting them at 101, quoting reference number 1587 20/12/25.
